Did it matter if they died?

They all had names.

But did it matter?

When they are just figures,

In your papers and documents,

When they are faceless strangers,

Whom you do not know.

They had families;

They had children,

They had parents,

Who loved them.

They had wives,

Who waited for them,

But was Left,

Only With grief and sorrow,

But did it matter?

They are all gone now.

Their souls faded into the earth.

You killed them.

I hope you accept their scorn,

Their hate, their envy.

Their curses to the still-living

To save your necks,

They all went to hell,

And never came back.

The least we can do is

To thank them for their noble sacrifice;

A lily on each and every grave.
