Did you call
Or was it the fall
Of snow
Through the dark trees?

Did you sing
Or was it just the wind
Through the barbwire
Of Dachau

Or Belsen?
Did I see you smile
Or was it just a dream
Of a child's features

Frozen in death?
Did you hold out your arms
To caress
Or were they seeking

To hold back
The angels of dark?
Once there was an innocence
Drenched in the blood

Of millions
And a chorus of cries
Echoing down the years
Of which yours

Was one
And the dark days
Were like an eclipse
Of the sun.
