Dunne the maid
Sits in the chair

And smokes her
Master and his

Daughter are out
Possibly getting

The tickets to Paris
She muses studying

The Vermeer on the
Wall taking in the

Smoke letting her
Thoughts drift as

She wonders what
Paris will be like and

How Hazel her young
Mistress would treat

Her while abroad and
How the old man had

Not been too keen on
Her going to Paris with

His daughter probably
Because he would miss

Her in his bed at night
And she didn’t think

At first he would agree
But then he looked at

Dunne and her dark
Eyes and he nodded

His head and said Ok
But you be careful

Those men out there
Are not like English

Men at all and I’m
Putting Dunne there

To take you in care
And be ever watchful

Of your pockets and
Purses and then he

Paused she remembers
And she gave him the

Wink and smile and he
Said no more and the

Matter was settled and
The breakfast continued

And as she sits and smokes
And studies the Vermeer

Listening out for their
Return she thinks on the

Master’s last night sex
And how he made her burn.
