He’s changed, you muse,
Sitting over a coffee
In the local café;
He’s not the same man
I met and fell in love with.

You pause your thoughts
As two people enter
And go to the counter:
She’s small and slim,
He’s tall and thin.
She’s wearing a short skirt
And tee shirt; he’s in jeans
And open necked shirt.

You study them, him more so.
Watch as he orders their wants,
His left hand tucked in the back
Pocket of his jeans, his head held
To one side as he decides
From the menu above his head.

The girl moves to thetable, sits down,
And stares at the man she’s with.
You watch her as she fiddles
With her bag, pulls out her makeup
And studies herself seriously
In the small compact mirror.

You look at the man as he sits
Down next to the girl, his eyes
On her, his hands reaching to
Touch hers. She seems unimpressed,
Pouts at her image. He looks over
Her head at you, his eyes a dark blue,
His lips part, form a small smile.

He’s changed, you muse, he’s never
Smiled like that before, not even
Two nights ago when he kissed
Me and went out the door.
