The boys remembered
Miss Greggs, not for
The geography lessons
She gave with maps
And globes and books,
But for her legs that she
Crossed and uncrossed
On the stool on which she
Sat each day at school.

Even O’Brien took note,
Scanning her depressions
And peaks, the way she
Sat, her eyes, the red
Lipstick smile, and even
Took to writing for a while.

The boys all loved
Miss Greggs with
The beautiful legs,
They would pore
Over books for ages,
Write down drafts,
Pencil notes, all
Of them in a daze,
Peering up at her
As she moved,
Each with a secret gaze.

The boys are older now,
At work, married most
With kids of their own,
But now and then,
These grown up men,
Take time to remember
Miss Greggs, the lessons she
Taught, but most of all her legs.
