She thought she would have
Forgotten about
Him after all this
Time, but every now

And then his image
Appears; the eyes seem
To stare back at her
From the faces of

Other men, or in
The way they stiffly
Stand and brush their hair,
Or gesture with their

Hands, a cigarette
Held loosely between
Fingers, yellowing
The skin. Or sometimes

He is there beside her
In bed, his breathing
Heard faintly above
That of her newest

Lover, his rough hands
Feeling her breasts while
The other one sleeps,
Or he fingers her

Soft sex as the new
Lover snores softly
Into the warm night.
She thought she would be

Rid of him, but still
He lingers; his cold

Ghostly image there
Before her eyes; his

Whispers echoing
Deep into her ears,
Bringing back the fears
She had of him in

The dark times, before
His untimely death
At the hands of his
New jealous lover;

Or so she believed,
And wanted that like
A piece of faith, for
No one grieved, except

The one who murdered
Him out of her rage,
Closing the book of
His once selfish life,
Writing the last page.
