You gaze out the window
As the sun sets
In the sky
And slowly sigh,
Stan Getz’s saxophone

Is easing the air
From the old gramophone.
Mitchum didn’t phone
Like he said he would,
Didn’t show,

And you
Already for him,
All hot
And scented,
Wearing that gown

He bought,
The one
With the low cut,
The lemony yellow.
But he won’t show now,

You know,
He never has before
On days like this;
Not once
Has he arrived

When he hasn’t phoned,
Then damn him,
You mutter,
Giving the sky
A darkened look,

Taking a sip
From your mug;
Wanting to have him there,
His fingers through your hair;
Hugging you close,

His hands
Upon your butt;
His smooth talk
Warming you more,
Knowing the score,

The full work;
The guy’s a jerk,
You sigh,
Turning from the window,
With one final glare;

Getz’s sax
 Is riding the air,
You know
It’s going to be
A sexless night in,

Without Mitchum,
Without sex,
Without sin.
