The sky above us was a sea.

The clouds were our memories.

Weaving in and out of the water,

Like dolphins beside a yacht.

Challenging us to move past them.

The grass below us was like quiet waves,

Brushing against our skin, reminding us

that our place was here,

Not there among our memories,

always hidden beneath the surface.

Your fingers interwove with mine,

Like fibers of a rope.

But not even a rope could keep you from swimming away,

Like the memory of childhood,

sleeping in the back of your mind.

The brushing of the waves

Must not have been enough,

To remind you, that your place was here.

Not there lacing through the water,

Like a memory.

never remembered, never fully forgotten.
