A A A

You get up and walk away

The bell rings atop the door as you pull it open

I just sit there

And watch

Is this it? I ask myself

My shoulders slump and I get this knot

Tying itself too tight in my stomach.

I watch you scantily cross the street

I look down at our table

staring at your half eaten meal

I realize I have more in common with it

Than I ever did with you.

We’ve both been consumed by you.

You talked about how amazing we were

but inside you felt different.

You knew soon you’d grow tired of us

and turn around and walk away, leaving us half eaten

so my question to you is,

why did you eat us, if you knew we were just a snack?
