Our eyes wouldn't meet for some reason, she would always ignore me when I'd ask her to pay attention even though she claimed that she was all ears. I would hang my head back and groan. I would hear her soft chuckle and grin like an idiot. I couldn't help it, she was just so beautiful.

I proceeded to take her hand in mine but I couldn't feel anything but a limp hand. She slowly slipped her hand away from our unaffected and intertwined fingers. I frowned internally but on the outside I laughed bitterly.

"I'm sorry, I just -... nothing." she uttered a word no less, no more.

I nodded understandingly as we walked on. About five minutes later, she stopped in place and faced the ocean and sighed.

"Isn't it pretty? How the ocean would just swish and the waves met the sand like it was meant to be?" I glanced at her more than interested but she was still focusing on the setting sun and the harmony of the ocean.

"What do you mean, 'meant to be'?" I asked. The wind blew gently past us and her hair flew out of order yet she didn't bother to tuck the strands away, she was a mystery all right.
