One Year Ago

'I can't rely on you.' she said.

'How am I supposed to trust you.' she said.

Blah blah blah. Who cares? I can survive without her. It's not like I need her. Just because I have a part-time job and don't get payed too well doesn't mean I can't make it through life. I'll prove her wrong. I can make a living without her in my life. It shouldn't be too hard. I mean all you have to do is get a job, check. A house (in my case an apartment), check. Enough money for bills, check. I got it all figured out.

I groaned and unlocked my apartment door. Ok so maybe it isn't so easy without my ex-girlfriend. I share an apartment with a psycho guy who's gone partying every night. I work from 6AM 'till 10PM every night. I make 5$ an hour and get payed every day. I haven't seen Alice in over a year and I miss her. I guess the person who said 'You don't know what you had until it's already gone' was right. I didn't think I needed her. I thought I was able to make it through life without her. Oh how I was wrong.

I realised that I couldn't go through life without her because she was my life. She's the only reason I get up in the morning, hoping she might come back. Hoping she would accept me. I got a better job, a better apartment, a better life. I'm no millionaire, I get average pay. I have enough in my bank account that I saved during the past year to buy a decent house, big enough for a family.

A family. That's what I want. A wife and kids. Alice and I would get married and have a baby girl and a baby boy. Good jobs and a nice house. We'd have a future.

I'm just waiting for her to pop-up. Waiting for her to come back. I've been waiting but she hasn't come yet.

A loud beeping awoke me. I hadn't realised I dozed off. It's time to go to work. I hurried to get ready and headed out the door.

"Did you hear? We have a new boss." my friend, Nathaniel, said.

"Really? Who is he?" I asked as I loaded a box in to the truck.

"She. It's a girl. I'm not sure who she is, no one met her yet." he answered back as he kept loading boxes.

I wonder who it is. This will be the first time that we had a girl as our boss. I hadn't realised that I stopped loading boxes until a voice brought me out of my trance.

"Mr. Charles get back to work." a woman's voice called out. I turned around to find who had called my name only to stop dead cold.

Alice. There she is standing right in front of me.

"E-Ethan?" she managed to say.

"Alice..." I breathed.

She ran in to my arms and I spun her around.

She came back...
