My fingers disturb the picture, mixing the colours until they settle once again. The silver luminous cast blends me in, sleepless nights no longer visible to the naked eye. I stare into the perfect picture, it reflects all our world is, what it will only hold, what it no longer does. The begging trees reach for me, tangling into my hair, it wants me. The wind caresses my cheek, pushing the dark thoughts  further into my mind, they are my senses. I try to ignore them, ignore the seductive urge to grab hold of insanity’s hand, entwining myself with her, me, it, again. The clouds stare at me in hostility, they make me feel claustrophobic lurking over me, waiting for their moment to drop and suffocate me in their dark grey blanket, everyone is out to get me. There isn’t a soul out her, but there is me. Slow movement, the sound of drifting reminds me of who I am.  She is part of the painting too.
My mind, the murder weapon, the knife, only an accomplice.
I wipe her life off my hands and onto the canvas.
My life, only a porcelain doll for display, pushed until broken. No longer part of the masque  I let the mask fall from my face.
And become another raft on the lake.
