Siren’s Call
She stands in quiet solitude
In snow-capped majesty
Dense, low clouds wrapping around her
Shrouded in strong and silent mystery
Peacefully white, deceptively calm
Yet winds whipping with every squall
Man after man has been drawn to the spot
Eagerly answering the siren’s call
Too often, while climbing the slope
A storm, or mistake, or something goes wrong
Many a courageous climber has perished
On a journey to hear the siren’s song
And still she stands, giving no hint
Of the danger that lies within
She gives off an aura of tranquility
But future venturers will not win
And so, she stands, a snow-capped queen
The ever-changing climate giving her no rest
And there she will stand, forevermore
The sturdy, the quiet, the majestic Everest.
