The sun is shining bright and proud today

And as I walk through its blinding beams I feel mocked.

Even assaulted by the rays.

Like a lover, bitter at the extended absence of the other

I refuse to acknowledge its presence though it warms my skin

And fills my heart with that familiar joy so longed for

Finally, stubbornness gives way to reluctant acceptance

Of the obvious fact that I have missed it so terribly.

Smiling self satisfactorily upon me, the joyous beauty of its shining

Teases words from my frozen lips, “Welcome back”.
