A A A

 I have been a dewdrop,
A single spot of rain,
I have been the tiny droplet
Which nourishes the grain.
I have sometimes been
The speck of dust,
In the corner
Of your pane.

I have known a thousand highways,
Strolled a million streets.
I have been the countless
falling leaves,
Which the autumn
Comes to greet.

I have known the wondrous lives
Of birds upon the wing.
As a blade of grass I have grown
amidst flowers in the spring.

From ash to ash
And dust to dust,
I traversed the universe
In trust.
Knowing, at your whim,
You will make,
Of me a tree,flower,
Fish or snake.

At your will,I shall be again,
A single leaf,or drop of grain.
A piece of grit,beneath a shoe,
A virus, such as cold or flu,
But Lord I pray you, understand,
Dont send me back to be a man.
