Bad Bart meets the Cabaniss Kid! (cab-ah-ness)

Poem by: David1611

Summary

This is an “interactive” story. To enjoy it to the fullest you will need to get up and move! The reader and audience interact with the story by doing the actions in the bold print (The actions of Bad Bart.) This is a story about the effects of bullying. It also shows how some bullies can be defeated! Trust me, I'm a school counselor!

Bad Bart had a cold black heart and he wore his feelings on his sleeve.

When he came to town wearing his ill-famed frown the good folks wanted to leave.

He’d ride a bull ‘cause he was cruel and he always rode alone;

And from the show everyone would know, Bad Bart was bad to the bone!

They didn’t know why, but they would see him cry sitting by himself in the corner of the room.

And if a kind hearted stranger not knowing the danger got too close to his gloom

He’d stand up quick and give the air a kick and stomp his boot on the floor;

He’d shake his fist and give his thumb a twist and point to the nearest door.

The ruckus would make the whole room shake but Bad Bart didn’t seem to care.

He’d slowly look around, and flash his frown; then he’d sit back in his chair.

It’s hard to cope when you don’t have hope and this desperado was falling apart

For long ago, I want you to know, a bully stole a piece of Bart’s heart!

Now his heart was cold, and full of mold - not a single beat for twenty years!

Until one day a boy stepped his way and kindly asked about his tears.

Bart stood up quick and gave the air a kick and stomped his boot on the floor;

He shook his fist and gave his thumb a twist and pointed to the nearest door.

He slowly looked around and flashed his frown; then sat back in his chair.

But this time, the stranger was still there!

He was tall and lanky, looking smart and swanky, wearing a hat too big for his head.

He stood there a while, and then started to smile which made Bad Bart turn red!

He stood up quick and gave the air a kick and stomped his boot on the floor;

He shook his fist and gave his thumb a twist and pointed to the nearest door.

He slowly looked around and flashed his frown; then sat back in his chair.

But just like before, no one went for the door and the boy was still standing there.

With a Texas slur he said “Excuse me, Sir, I certainly don’t want to seem rude;”

“to this end, people need a friend, when they are stuck in such grizzly mood!”

Bad Bart thought as his temper boiled hot it was time to stop the guess’in!

No need to be coy with this cowboy it was time to teach him a lesson!

He reached down deep where dark memories creep and spoke word’s that were hateful and black,

And as the lad turned sad with a tear in his eye Bad Bart wished he could take it back;

For he remembered the time, hidden deep in his mind harsh words so mean and woolly

like stampeding herds, those very same words were spoken to him by the bully!

The youth spoke truth and it made Bart shiver as he wished his gloom could end.

Then the cowboy sighed “Bad Bart, Sad Bart, I still want to be your friend.”

(The actions change here… His fist is a whoop, whoop and the twist is a thumbs-up!)

Bart stood up quick and gave the air a kick and stomped his boot on the floor;

He shook his fist and gave his thumb a twist and said, “I’d like to hear some more.”

The crowd was shocked and just plain gawked as the boy sat down with Bart

And as they talked awhile and started to smile, some will say, you could hear the thump of old Bart’s heart.

Bart stood up quick and gave the air a kick and stomped his boot on the floor;

He shook his fist and gave his thumb a twist and said, “Ain't gonna be bad no more.”
