Do you REALLY know what “God is Love” means?
OrWhat does it really mean to draw close to God?
What does it mean to “draw close to God”? Does it mean going to church more? Or becoming a better Christian? Does it mean reading the Bible more and praying more? Does it mean being able to stop doing certain sins?
If we agree with all of the above, we think of Christianity in terms of a “religion”. But God is not a religion. God is a person. So, to “draw close to God” simply means to get to know the person of God better. To find out what He thinks and feels and says and does. Jesus said that “the scriptures talk about Me” Jh 5:39. So we need to study what the Bible says about God. Not about rituals and doctrines of Christianity, but about God Himself.(Although the other things will be revealed to us as well). We need to “read between the lines”. We need to find the HEART of God in the Bible.
Christianity is not about how many times to go to church, or how many times to pray or how many times to read the Bible or which sins are allowable and which are not. So then WHAT is it about?
Well, let’s look at these verses:
1) God is LOVE(1 Jh 4:8,16) (so that makes Him a Lover because Love loves)
2) We are His Bride(SON 4:8, REV 19:7, ISA 62:5, JER 2:2, JOH 3:29 HOS 2:16 ISA 54:5)
3) He has loved us with an everlasting love(JER 31:3 NEH 9:32)
4) There is a wedding of Jesus Christ  REV 19:9
5) We will be united with GodJOH 17:23EPH 5:31,32
6) When we give half of our heart to the world, He compares it to adultery (JAM 4:4,5 DEU 32:21
7) God says He is jealous and the Spirit who lives in us is jealous  (JOS 24:19JAM 4:5)
We just read about a Lover, a Bride, love, a wedding and becoming one. Could it be that Christianity is a “love relationship” between beings? Could God have created people to “love and to hold”, to be an object of His affection? We say that God is love. And then we ascribe only agape love to Him. But how can the source of Love be missing the most important element of love, like a romantic love? How can LOVE, who is God, not have romantic love in Himself?
HOS 2:16 "In that day," declares the LORD, "you will call me 'my husband'; you will no longer call me 'my master.'
Which was the most important commandment? - LOVE the Lord your God. And didn’t it say in the Bible: love is the fulfillment of the law? ROM 13:10  MAT 22:36-40 Was God perhaps trying to tell us that it’s not about laws and rituals, but about Love?(There are many laws and regulations in the Bible. And people focus on them, and they sort of hide the real story: the story of a Creator, creating Himself somebody to love).
God is LOVE!God is not just loving, He is love itself. And what are the qualities of Love?It loves!God is a Lover of souls. And we know that Love is giving. So, therefore God is giving. God wants to give us His love. Love/God delights in giving His love.
We wouldn’t know what a “love relationship” is, unless God has shown it to us. If He just said: “love me” and didn’t give us the example of loving, we wouldn’t know what it means. If God said: “you are my Bride”, we wouldn’t know what that means, unless we have seen a Bride before. But we DO know what loving means (even if only a little). And we DO know what Bride means. God has shown us a love relationship on the example of a man and a woman. So now we know what He means when He says: you are my Bride, I love you. Please love me too.
A Bride simply means: a recipient of God’s love and a lover of God.In spiritual world there is no males or females. There is only the Spirit and souls. The Spirit of God is a giver of love, the Groom. And souls are the receivers of His love – the Bride. You CAN think of Him in terms of your Groom. OR you can think of Him in terms of your Father. Or your best friend. Whichever way you choose to think of Him, the main thing is: you have to be the recipient of His love (His Bride), so you have to love Him.
A man and a woman are different and they complement each other. One has something that the other needs. A man needs to touch a woman and a woman needs to be touched. A man is a giver and a woman is a receiver. A woman needs someone strong to lean on, and a man has a need to have somebody weak lean on him. A man was made to command. And a woman was made to submit and surrender. It’s like bees need flowers and flowers need bees. It’s like in a “cup of water” relationship, a cup needs water and water needs a cup.
God/Love wants to give His love. He created the souls to be the receivers of His love. God is like water. And the souls are like a cup.  God pours His love into us (a cup). There is one problem though. God can only pour His love into us IF WE love Him. If we don’t love Him, His love cannot get into our soul. It’s like we covered the cup with a cover and His love cannot get in. The only way for His love to get into your soul (and the only way for you to FEEL God’s love) is to love Him.
This is important. The only way for you to feel God’s love – is to love Him backAnd the only way for God to be able to pour His love into you is when you love Him back. So that’s why, when we fall in love with God, we start to FEEL His love. Because when we love Him, we are able to receive His love. And since He created us to be the recipients of His love, no wonder His most important commandment was: Love the Lord your God. (Because as I said, if you don’t love, you are not able to receive His love. But to be the receivers of love was the whole point of creating us.)God wants to give love. Souls want to receive love. We are lovers, we love each other. It’s a perfect combination. There is a song like that:  “a perfect combination”.
Two hearts together, we’re a harmony so right
Two sparks united, we’re a fire burning bright
Perfect combination - lovers you and me
We can conquer any mountain
Just as long as we’re together
’Cause as one we are an endless fou
ntain
Overflowing with love Perfect love

A Lover cannot have a perfect love relationship all by Himself. A Lover needs somebody to love and somebody who loves Him back. So God created Himself that somebody. And now He has that perfect combination. A circle of love, like a ring. A ring is a symbol of never-ending love. This song is called “circle in the sand”. I will add what it means in parenthesis.
Sundown all around (It’s getting spiritually darker and darker, as the end time is approaching)
Walking thru the summer's end (summer is the end times, before the fall. The wedding of the Lamb is in the fall)
Waves crash baby, don't look back  (as things are getting worse, leave the world behind and don’t look back)
I won't walk away again (I will never leave you nor forsake you)
Oh, baby, anywhere you go,
We are bound together (Jesus Christ in us and we are one, bound together)
I begin, baby, where you end (when we die to ourselves, the life of Jesus Christ in us begins)
Some things are forever! (and this is going to last for eternity)
Circle in the sand, round and round  (like a ring of never ending love, we are one)
Never ending love is what we've found (Christ and us are united in never ending love)
And you complete the heart of me (God is the giver of love, we-the receivers, hence - the circle of love)
Our love is all we need (we and God, together, have absolutely everything)
Cold wind, tide move in Shiver in the salty air (hard times are here, it’s hard to go through them)
Day breaks, my heart aches (I am in pain, while we are having to go through trials, until the day comes)
I will wait for you right here  (but soon we’ll meet, I am waiting for you)
Oh, baby when you look for me  Can you see forever ? (When you thinking about God, can you realize that He has given you eternity?)
I begin baby, where you end We belong together (we are a part of each other, we are one, we belong together, bounded in a circle of perfect love)
Baby can you hear me? (Can you hear God speaking to her heart and calling you to draw near to Him?)
Can you hear me calling?
So then what is our goal in “getting closer to God”? Our goal is to find this love relationship, for which God has created us in the first place. Our goal is to fall in love with this God who made us to be the recipients of His love. Whatever we do besides receiving His love and giving Him our love, takes a second place. Love comes first. Love – was the whole point of creation.1 Cor 13 talks about love being the only thing that’s important. The rest of the things take second place. If I give everything away, if I sacrifice, if I have great knowledge or faith or do other wonderful things for God, but I have no love (for God), then it’s all for nothing. All things will pass away. Only love will remain. If we have love AND deeds, we have 100%. If we have all the deeds in the world, but no love for God, we have 0%. Christians focus on deeds, rules and regulations and traditions and forget that the whole point of them being Christians – is to fall in love with God. That’s why Jesus said: I know your deeds. They are great. But it’s not enough. I will remove your lampstand if you don’t repent. That’s why He said: if you are lukewarm (no love for God), then I will spit you out (you are useless, you are like salt without saltiness, like a light bulb without light.) Rev 2:2-5
So then, the treasure that we seek, is love relationship with God.But to put it in different terms, it’s GOD Himself. He is the treasure.God told the Levites (which represented the church, because we are the priests of God): You are to have no other inheritance.  I am your inheritance. I am your portion.Materialistic people would say: God has given the Levites less. He only gave them Himself and nothing else. But people who drew close to God have realized that God has given the Levites the best that there was to give: HIMSELF.PSA 63:3 Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you.God – is the ultimate in glory and beauty and power and everything else. So when He gives us Himself, He can’t top that gift. When He gives us Himself, He gives us the very best. So it’s GOD HIMSELF that we are seeking. It’s His heart that we are trying to find. When we will get to know Him more, we will fall in love. And then we will fulfill our destiny – become the recipients of God’s love.
It’s a perfect love relationship: God is our portion, our inheritance. And we are God’s portion, His inheritance. We inherit each other.
DEU 32:9NUM 18:23  DEU10:9 EPH 1:18
DEU 10:9 That is why the Levites have no share or inheritance among their brothers; the LORD is their inheritance
EPH 1:18 I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of His glorious inheritance in the saints
DEU 32:9 For the Lord's portion is His people, Jacob is His allotted inheritance
JER 31:3 The LORD appeared to us in the past, saying: “I have loved you with an everlasting love” Also SON 8:6
DEU 6:5 Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.
When a Bride gets married, she receives gifts from her Groom. When souls get close to God, fall in love with Him, He gives them additional gifts (besides Himself). He gives them the ability to overcome flesh, the ability to do more in a Christian life, the ability to serve Him better, the ability to be a better person. He gives them joy and satisfaction. Those gifts come AS A RESULT of our falling in love with God. They come as a consequence of our drawing close to God. But it’s not these things themselves that we need to seek. It’s God. And those things will be added. God Himself will take care of those things. Jesus Christ in us, Himself, will start producing His life in us and will bring the fruit of the Spirit in us and will Himself keep us blameless and keep us from falling away. It’s His job. JUD 1:24 1TH 5:23-24 PSA 37:52TH 3:3 PHI 2:13HEB 13:211 Co 1:8 Our job is to fall in love with Him. Deu 6:5
Fall in love – simply means to think of Him with utmost deepest feelings of love and loving devotion, admiration and joy. David was in love with God. He said that all He wanted to do was to stare at the beauty of the Lord. He said that he was thinking of God day and night. That he was into God. PSA 27:4  PSA 42:2PSA 63:1 ISA 26:9 PSA 63:6This is what it means to fall in love with God. And anybody can do it after they get to know Him better through studying the Bible, thinking about God and talking to Him as often as possible.
Speaking about getting to know God better, we can start with Love. The Bible says that God is love. And we agree, but then describe Him as not loving. We need to learn what love is and then attribute the qualities of love to God. Love is giving. So that means that God is giving. So whenever God gives us commandments, they are NOT about His demanding things from us. It’s about Him trying to GIVE something to us. (Is 48:17,18, JER 29:11  Rom 8:29 JOH 15:11  JOH 17:24 JOH 3:16)
For example, God says: praise me. He says that because when you find something very delightful, you can’t help but praise it. When you praise it, it completes your joy. When you don’t get to praise it, your joy becomes less. So, God, knowing that, and knowing that He is the most beautiful thing that there is, wanted people’s joy to be complete and therefore wanted them to praise Him.  Also, when we praise God, our heart fills with joy. How do you feel when you are really into praising and worship? Don’t you feel sooo good?He is like a loving Father, teaching his little children how to get the best out of life. His commandments are to bring us joy, not to take it away. We just need to see them from the perspective of love and giving.
God gives. All He does is for us. All He commands is - in order to give us something good. He wants to give us life. When we run to the world, we run to the fake stuff, to the evil stuff, the stuff which will keep us away from life. So that’s why He said: turn AWAY from the world. When He said: you need to forgive, it wasn’t to make our life harder. It was to keep our souls pure and away from influence of satan. When we don’t forgive, satan has a lot of freedom in our soul. To keep satan away we need to think good, do good, feel good. So God is teaching us to do that. When He said: do good to those who do evil, it wasn’t to make it harder for us. It was because it is the only way to overcome darkness, it’s a spiritual secret of victory. God is our spiritual trainer and is teaching us all the tricks of the trade, to make sure we come out victorious. His commands are to –give us life. Whenever we disobey them, we start to walk away from life, from joy, from true riches.
When He said: worship me only, it wasn’t for selfish reasons. It was to keep our feet on the paths of life. Only when you worship God, can you walk on the paths of righteousness. Worshipping God means – being godly. And being godly means being good. So if somebody doesn’t want to worship Him, it means he wants to be bad, to do evil. Jesus said if somebody doesn’t come to the light (God) that means his deeds are evil. Jh 3:19  And we know the end for those who do evil. But God doesn’t want to destroy people, He would rather they all repent and live. He is Love. But He also has a responsibility. So if you have a little puppy and it gets infected with a mad dog decease, you have to destroy the puppy, no matter how much you love it. So it is with God. He has the responsibility of doing that.
LAM 3:33 For he does not willingly bring affliction or grief to the children of men.
EZE 33:11 As surely as I live, declares the Sovereign LORD, I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that they turn from their ways and live.
2PE 3:9 He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.
ISA 26:9-10 says that even God’s judgments are sent for the purpose of saving people. But it also says that no matter what you do, the wicked ones don’t want to repent (and so have to be destroyed). Jesus was crying over Jerusalem, that they didn’t want Him to gather them under His wings. Love is loving and giving. It brings grief to Love to have to destroy.
God is also humble. Did you know that? Isn’t it very beautiful: all powerful, but yet very humble? MAT 11:29
When children are small, the parents tell them what not to do. Children don’t know the reasons, they just obey out of fear. So it is with Christians. At first they obey God’s commands out of fear. Later, they start to understand WHY He told them not to do certain things and start to obey out of love and out of wisdom. When we draw close to God, we start to see Him for Who He really is: a beautiful loving Being, so powerful and yet so humble, so giving, so compassionate, so loving, so wise, so just, so perfect, so good… And we just can’t help but fall in love…And thus, find the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow; see the breathtaking view on the top of the mountain.
God said: Draw close to me, and I will draw close to you. Start thinking about God and get to know Him and He will reveal Himself to you. (Jh 14:21 JER 29:13,14  JAM 4:8 REV 3:20 HEB 11:6 ACT 17:27 PSA 119:2 1CH 28:9)
Come and drink from the fountain of love. REV 22:17Taste and see that the LORD is goodPSA 34:8
