This is a poem I wrote on 4/8/10 and 4/9/10. I read this at my school's poetry jam, which is the first time I ever read my writing to an audience, which turned out to be bigger than I thought. Taylor Mali was also there(who is amazing and funny). It turned out to be the best night I ever had.

I do not want to be the ideal woman
I will not worship the God who is called a man
For God is a woman and she is even more powerful
I will not give myself to a man who demands of me
I am not here to be used or controlled by men
I am independent and I will make my own choices
Whether my father likes it or not

I will not keep my lips sealed
And my father cannot seal them
Because I have a voice and I want to use it

I am more than just an object
For I am a queen without a king
No, I am a Goddess and I have power

No man will be like my father and tell me
What I am or what I need to look like
For I will turn them to stone with my eyes like Medusa
If only their eyes were up instead of down

What I am is what my father hates
I am not my father’s expectations
For this is my life and I am a woman
This is me
