I was up at 3 a.m. one morning and decided to write a poem and enter it in a contest. It ended up being published. If ever offered two pills, what would you do? I thought of Alice going down the hole, but also what would her mother would say in response.

You have the choice between two pills.

You want to go down the rabbit hole,

But the other hand leaves you where you are now.

Mama always told you not to accept from strangers,

But Mama always took the late night shift at the corner.

You want to go down,

But you don’t know the depth of the rabbit hole.

So you ask why you can’t take both

And you know Mama would yell.

Wake up in Wonderland with amnesia

Because you only want to know one world.

Once you fall in head first,

There is no way up or down and no way forward.

Away from Mama and her rules.

You wonder if anyone will care for your absence,

But you know you are dead to the world in Mama’s eyes.

The door to Wonderland opens and you go back

To the beginning where you were destined.

The world Mama always said no, no, no.

Welcome to Wonderland, you hear before you swallow the pills.
