The sound of elephants stomping down the stairs,
Tripping over toys and teddy bears,
Mucky fingerprints all over the telly,
A muddy footprint from a tiny welly.
Sticky jam, honey or toothpaste in hair,
No more trendy, fitting clothes to wear.
Crumbs of food all over the floor,
Juice in hands ready to pour.
Always cleaning, tidying and putting away,
But a reward of love that will always stay.
Happiness, laughter and the sounds of joy,
Seeing them play with a favourite toy.
Always feeling like they grow up too fast,
And trying to hold on to their precious past.
Enjoying, remembering, loving and sharing,
Laughing, hugging, crying and caring.
Feelings you could never have felt before,
Like a key that has opened a brand new door.
Through all the tantrums, tiredness, screams and rage,
Are beautiful chapters unfolding on an unwritten page.
For all the stress is worth every tear,
For those little hearts you hold so dear.
