This is a stream of conscious poem about betrayal and how it parallels the raw, bloody death of an animal. It's raw but it's real.

The Hunter and the Hunted

Emotions spilling out like a gutted deer
Freshly shot by an excited hunter

Rifle aimed with precision at the heart
So up front
So unprotected
Unaware of the plans the cold weapon would carry out

I am awestruck by the brazen hunter’s aim
His careful and thought out calculations, his patience

A loud, single shot, so definite. So quick

Red, pouring out
uncontrollable flow
Unstoppable

I feel as if my insides are spilling out

First comes disgust – outrage, blind disbelief
Sadness arrives at the loss of life
At the loss of the unprotected
At the loss of naivety, loss of innocence

This is not his first kill

The steaming carcass in the cold air
It is me
