Dear David,

It's been seven years since you left me, and I have kept the last letter you wrote to me. I am writing to you today to confess several things. I know you may not want to hear from me, but I highly recommend that you read this.

Firstly, however, I want to congratulate you on your success in your life. I am glad you have done well in your A-Levels, and I hope you do well in university to become a doctor. Your aunt Lilian has informed me that you have also wrote a book, and you have made thousands from it. Believe me when I tell you I am extremely proud of you. I have also had a change in luck. I have changed my career to acting, and I might be breaking into television soon! I have not touched alcohol for 7 years since you left, and I know that you are happy without me in your life, and I respect that. I wish you all the best for the future.

Now, I have two confessions to make. Firstly, I know why Laura commited suicide. She discovered that I was fostering her. I had been since she was a little girl. She was too young to know any better, and I'm very sorry to tell you, but you had a right to know. When she found the papers proving that I had fostered her, she researched further and found out that her parents were in prison for murder. She started to take drugs and alcohol, because she couldn't live with the fact about what she had found out. Eventually, she killed herself under the influence of drugs.

Now for the bigger confession. I know what happened to your father. That night, after the lovely day on the beach, as you remember, we returned to the flat. The reason your father collapsed was because he had an inoperable brain tumour, meaning that he would have only a few weeks left anyway. He collapsed that night and became very ill. He could barely talk. He begged me to kill him, so I gave him the fatal drugs which ended his life quickly and painlessly. Please do not judge me- it was your father's wish to die like that.

Finally, I just want to say that I'm sorry for choosing the bottle over you. I understand that you do not want to contact me again, and I respect that.

With love,

Your mother, Leslie
