The Plastic Shank

by Luis F. Magallon

There he was dead. I could feel the warm blood on my fingers. It was running down my thumb,so dark like oil. I had just killed an officer, this being my second time. I felt sick to my stomach, my legs stiff to the bone. I stood and stared at the officers blood...so dark. I walked out my cell and into the cafeteria. I saw my cell mate "Tomcat" sitting down. I walked towards him and set next to him.
I whispered in his ear:"Bruce is dead, man." He blinked and took a bite of his food."I'm serious Cat, I killed him." He sat there looking ignorant as always.Tomcat turned towards me and said: "It's gonna take more than one kill to impress me you know." As he said that I stood up and shouted:"Bruce is dead!" One of the guards looked at me and said:"Calm down kid." I pulled out my shank and shanked the officer."Freedom." I picked up the guard's handgun."Anyone wanna tell me to calm down." I shouted."Your damn stupid kid." said Tomcat.

One man versus 50 highly trained guards. I ran towards the security gate."STOP!" said the guards. I could feel the adrenaline pumping. I aimed for one of the guards and pulled the trigger. BANG! The guard fell to his knees and I kicked him in the face.As i picked up his ammunition, bullets came flying towards me. I swiftly dodged most of them, while some hit my fake food.I was almost out of the prison.

I passed the buses and shot everyone in my way. I made my out into the field and shot some rival gangsters."Yo man where you going?!" someone said. "Home." I replied. The security gate was right there. I jumped on it and climbed over. Was I really going to make it. I heard bells ringing. I felt something pierce my chest. The pain, the agony. Would I ever see my son again.

I stood up in my bed and realized It was a nightmare. Only one more week before I would be released. Maybe I dont have to escape after all.
