I can feel it all around me,
Enveloped in love and in the beauty of song,
A velvet aroma that so tempts my heart,
Through warm air rising from a backyard grove,
In the face of a flower that blooms before me—
Words that sing and grow as they speak,
Not a moment so free as when I’m cast unto them.
With sounds of the soul as much as the mind,
Let fall upon me the waves of your breath.
Feel as you feel and smile as you do,
Let me be a fresh garden to bear your stake,
And grace unto me the seed of your thought.
Let me call as the bird perched softly above,
And awaken the children so soundly asleep.
I want this feeling,
This wonderful sensation of purpose in word,
To be part of me,
In all that I do,
And all that I am.
Miss Dove, I want to be you.
