This work is fictional**

About a week ago a small group of elementary students came to the hospital. They sang and danced for us, with their youthful smiles and laughter. Afterwards, they had time to visit with the patients. A small girl came up to me, and got really close. As a sick teenager, most people stayed away. But this girl was fearless.

"Whats wrong?" she asked me.

"I'm sick," I said.

"Are you going to die?" she said.

"Umm..." I hesitated. I knew very well I only had about a month left. But I didn't know what to tell her. Eventually, I just nodded. She pulled out a card that had a picture of man in a military uniform drawn in crayon on it. I opened it and inside were the uneven letters 'I love you Daddy'. Tears  jumped to my eyes.

"When you get to heaven, will you give that to my Daddy?" she said. Tears rolled down my cheeks.

"Yes," I said. "Yes I will."
