\"althea's

\"Default\" The Woods.

The moon was melting
on the window pane
As I went into the night
and walked that walk again.

A raven flew by
on night black wings
and I walked into the forest
where no bird sings.

No light airy foliage
on these gnarled old trees
just the resinous scent
of the evergreens.

In this stark primal place
the scent of moist earth and decay
where sunlight never bleeds through
the huddled trunks that crowd the way.

There is deep silence there
where darkling shadows brood
where I can be apart,alone
and cast my peevish mood.
