I never meant for this to happen. I never meant to fall for him. I wasn’t supposed to fall for him. God dammit! He’s a Winchester, they’re nothing but trouble. This wasn’t supposed to happen.

It all happened the day I was at a motel checking in and I turned around after I grabbed the room key. I walked straight into someone because I had my head down trying to fit my stupid wallet back in my bag.

“Sorry.” I muttered as I tried to walk away.

“Hey! Wait!” The voice called after me.

I turned around and saw him standing there. I glanced up at his face, wondering what he wanted.

“You.. uh, dropped this.” He said as he handed me back my wallet.

“Heh, I guess I did. Thanks.”

After that I scurried off embarrassed to my room. However, that wasn’t the only encounter. Well, of course it wasn’t. I mean how else would I have fallen for him off of that one silly encounter.

A few days later I put the do not disturb sign on the door knob and walked down to the lobby. They offer breakfast there for a small fee, it’s better than going to a diner where the food is nothing but grease. Who likes that crap anyways?

I was walking around the buffet selection of food glancing at all the grease filled food, to me, nothing was appealing here. That’s when I spotted the salad bar of fruit! So, I guess it would be called a fruit bar. I walked over towards it glancing down at all the fruit, it looked edible. That was a good sign. I looked around my area to see if anyone else was around because it suddenly got quiet, and that’s never good. There was nobody except two guys just walking in, I went back to my business not thinking anything of it. I found the yoghurt, nuts, berries and put them all in a pile in front of the toaster.

“Can I get to the toaster.” The voice behind me said.

I moved to the right allowing him to access the toaster.

“Hey, aren’t you that girl I saw a few days ago. Well, that walked into me?” He said with slight laughter.

I looked up at him and replied, “I guess I am.”

“What? Not social?”

“No. I’d just like to get back to making my breakfast, if you don’t mind.”

After that I grabbed a bowl quickly and put everything into the bowl, mixed it together, and went and sat in the corner staring at my computer screen. I watched the man go sit back down with the other guy and start talking. Men will never realise that they talk much louder than needed considering I could hear every word both of them spoke.

“Ha! The infamous Dean Winchester got brushed off by a girl.” The taller one said with a laugh.

“Shut up. I don’t see you talking to any girls. It makes me wonder about you, Sammy.”

I smiled and went back to eating my breakfast and typing away on my computer. When I finished my breakfast the guy was coming towards me, and I was to slow to put away my missing person papers and he saw them.

“Missing person, huh.” He said casually.

“um, yeah.” I said not knowing how to reply.

“what do you know of this?” he asked.

I shook my head and grabbed the papers, shoved them in my bag and left, leaving my bowl and cup on the table.

I walked back down towards my room but I was stuck behind some old lady deciding to stop in the middle of the hall to look at everything around her and talk to her friend.  I turned around because I thought I saw another exit down the hall, but when I turned around I saw Mr. Annoying and the other guy that he called Sammy.

“Oh great.” I muttered.

“Oh look, funny meeting you here.”

“Leave me alone.”

I brushed passed them, what did he want with me? Oh right, probably what every guy wants, to get in my pants.

I found the other exit, hurray! I walked outside and around to the front and walked back inside to go down the hall to my room. I finally arrived at my room and walked in and locked the door. I went straight to the table and pulled out my laptop and turned on the t.v. to the news station to see if anything else had happened with the missing people. Nothing. Okay, time to check online to see anything about this, then hit the streets, interview people, and see if I can draw up any connections.

It was just after lunch went I went out to talk to the people that had a relation to the missing people. I went with the cover of a friend of the person and I had just heard about it. The first place I went to was the average “she was just a normal girl, always went out with friends, was always happy.” The usual junk.  When I went to the second house of one of the other missing persons, the lady had said “I never knew he had so many old friends.”

“What do you mean?” I asked her.

“Well, there were two other young men that were here. One was taller than the other.” She replied.

“Oh, yeah. Well, that’s Seth for you. Full of surprises.” I replied.

So far, I found no connections between the two people that have gone missing, but there’s something I’m missing. I went to the last person I was going to talk to today, and that’s when I saw the two guys I had seen earlier today. They were coming out of the house, just as I was walking up the path to the door.

“What are you doing here?” I said with a bit of anger towards the guy named Dean.

“Was just about to ask you the same thing. But I guess we can answer that question without giving answers.” He said.

“I guess so.” I replied, “Do you know anything, is there anything different?” I wanted answers.

“Let’s go back to the motel.” The taller one replied.

We all met back at the motel and I ended up in their room.

“I take it you’re a hunter.” The taller one said.

“Yes. And you two are as well, correct?”

“Mhm,” the shorter one replied, “I guess we should know names. I’m Dean, he’s Sam.”

“I know.” I stated.

“How? Who are you?” He said sharply.

“I know because you we’re really loud when I was eating breakfast. I’m Gaia.”

We all sat in silence for a few minutes before I broke it.

“So, what do you two know?” I questioned.

“Nothing really, just that there’s two missing people.” Sam said.

“Wrong,” I paused, “there’s three.”

“What do you mean three? There’s only two.” Dean said confused.

I sighed and thought, ‘two idiots at my hands, and I’m working a case with them now. Oh well.’ I pulled out my three papers of missing persons.

“See,” I said pointing to them, “there’s three, not two.”

“Dammit, Sam. How did you miss that?”

“Because you rushed me out of the library because you started thinking with your stomach, like always.”

“Well you should have been quicker! I was hungry!”

“Guys!” I said with some volume.

“You’re always hungry!” Sam practically whined.

“Shut up!” I yelled.

They both shut up and stared at me with wide eyed.

“Can we get back to the original point please? I’d like to get this case finished and just leave this shit town.”

“Sure.” They said in unison.

We worked together for the remainder of the night, and Dean went out for awhile leaving Sam and myself in the room. I continued to type on my computer until my eyes couldn’t stand it any longer.

“Uggh!” I cried out in utter frustration.

Sam looked up at me from the book he had his nose in. “What?”

“I can’t look at this anymore. I’m sleep deprived.”

I got up and walked over to the window and looked out onto the street. It was just after midnight and the town was obviously dead. I walked towards the wall and looked at the papers we all had pinned up once we started thinking this through. I stared at the wall looking at the three people trying to piece something together.

“Ah ha!” I practically jumped.

“What?” Sam asked as he rubbed a hand over his face.

“I have something,” I began, “It’s not much but, the three victims are all the same age, they all went to the same place, and they all disappeared five days apart.”

Sam stared up at me from the chair and his eyes lit up, “That’s a lot you just put together! That helps a lot!”

“Well, that should narrow stuff down right? Especially the fact that they all went to the same place.” I said satisfied.

Sam got up from the chair and came and stood beside me and started looking at the connections I had written out and tacked up onto the giant wall. Sam was just opening his mouth to speak when Dean made quite the entrance. He kind of staggered in, sort of. Most likely drunk.

“Dean.” Sam said.

“I’m fine, tripped over the door thing.”

“Sure.” Sam said unconvinced.

“Find anything while I was gone?”

“Gaia made many connections just a few minutes ago.” Sam said kind of happily.

“I uhh, yeah. Which means we only have tomorrow before another one goes missing the following day.”

“Oh great.” Dean muttered.

“Look, I’m not thrilled about it either. But that’s how most cases end up, we can’t screw this up. But I’m going to leave the rest to you two. I’m hoping you can be somewhat capable to use your brains. I’m going to bed. Meet for breakfast at 8:30 tomorrow. Don’t be late.” I ordered as I left their room.

When I got back to my room I took a quick shower, then grabbed my book and went and laid down in bed and read for awhile. I ended up falling asleep with my book on me. When I woke up it was just after 7am. I really wish I could sleep in, but this is the most sleep I’ve gotten in a while, so I guess that’s a good thing. I got up out of bed and got ready for this long day hoping this case would be over with by the end of the night so I can head out.

I left the room at 8:20, only because I wanted to be early, and I couldn’t stand to be in that room any longer without me going insane. Dean and Sam got here 5 minutes after I did, and I had my yoghurt mixture sitting in front of me untouched.

“Oh, how nice of you to wait for us.” Dean said sarcastically.

“Nice try, I don’t wait for people. I just keep pushing forward.”

He went quiet after that and went and grabbed something to eat while I stayed and went to work not really touching my food.

“Did you guys figure anything else out after I left?” I asked casually but eager.

“Sort of.” Dean replied.

“I don’t want to hear sort of. I want to know what you have figured out.”

“Well, we have until roughly 5pm to stop this.” Sam said looking at me.

“That’s it? That’s all you guys have?” I said surprised.

“Well excuse me! You kind of put a lot of shit together last night!” Dean exclaimed.

“Well, there were still some blanks! I figured you two would figure something out!”

I looked outside, it was raining. Fan-freakin’- tastic!

“Gaia, did you come up with anything else?” Sam asked.

“I did. We’re dealing with something that’s tied to the house.”

“We figured that out last night.” Dean said angrily.

“Well why the hell didn’t you share with the class?” I snapped back.

“Let’s just get on with this.” Sam said.

“Fine.” Dean and I said in unison.

I stared at my yoghurt mixture in front of me, it was beginning to look unappealing. I don’t think I’m going to eat it now.

“So, we should probably go check out the place then.”

“Right, we should.” Dean replied.

“Well, what if Dean and I check out the place, considering I don’t think he’s capable of research-”

“Hey!” he protested. “I can do research, I just don’t think it’s cool.”

“Right. And Sam, if you don’t mind, you could do the research? Cause my brain can’t handle another computer screen for a few days.”

“Sure, I’ll head out now.”

Sam left, leaving Dean and I at the table.

“Now why did you get him to leave? Be honest, Gaia.”

“I already gave you my reasons, and I meant them.”

“Alright then.”

The silence came, and I pulled out my sketch book unsure when he was ever going to finish his pile of food.

“You draw?” He asked just about to eat some greasy thing.

“When the time is available. Now quiet.”

I stared at the table and chairs around us and started sketching them out and I wasn’t quite done when he finished his food.

“You ready?” He asked.

“One minute.”

His phone started ringing and it was Sam giving him some information on the place that would help get us started. What we were looking for, I am not sure. I finished up my quick sketch, and put everything away and looked at Dean.

“I’m ready.”

“Well, what if I leave my car here for Sam, so he can meet us there. And we take yours? As much as I don’t want to do this, it’s the best option.”

“Yeah, sure. Whatever.”

He went and dropped off his keys in their room and came to meet me out front where I was parked. We left for the place and while I was driving I had a thought about all the victims realising that they all went to the house for a reason. They all wanted the thrill of this apparent haunted place. They all went to the same high school, that’s when I had my realization.

“Dial Sam’s number. I need to know something.” I demanded.

Dean did just that without a question surprisingly, and handed me his phone.

“Yeah?” Sam answered.

“I need to know something. I know this is probably close to impossible, but do you think that maybe the victims had the same teacher or something?”

Dean looked at me strangely, “But why is it the house, and not the school?”

“Well, say that this teacher or whatever was angry with the kids, and did something while they were in school and didn’t finish it or something. Or that the kids did something that was just god awful wrong and he knew about it, and they never got in shit for it or whatever, and the guy couldn’t do anything for it, so that would make him want to make sure something was done about it, right?”

“Found something!” Sam exclaimed.

“There were 4 teens that had continuously harassed other students but nothing was ever done about it is basically what it says.”

“Okay, so there’s one more kid.” Dean said slowly.

“So,” I began, “Let’s say that the guy is tied to the house, and the kids are stupid and heard it was haunted so they went to check it out and they go missing, and are probably dead. What has him stuck at the house?”

“Maybe something of the kids’?”

It was after the whole conversation we had come to the conclusion that it was something of the kids, he took something of theirs one day trying to get them to stop the constant harassing. Dean and I were already at the house looking for the kids’ jacket with a bunch of stuff attached to it from the other kids. We just hoped that none of the kids had found it, because then we’re screwed. Dean and I separated, he took upstairs, and I took downstairs. I check the closets, the rooms, and that’s when I heard Dean yell, “I got it!” he came downstairs with it, but just as he was coming downstairs, old man ghosty appeared behind him.

“Dean!” I yelled, “behind you!”

But it was too late the next thing I knew, Dean was on the ground the jacket a few feet away from the both of us. I lunged for the jacket but I was thrown back. So much for going for the obvious. I really hoped Sam would show up soon. I suddenly felt this really sharp pain in my head, and I couldn’t figure out what it came from, and that’s the last thing I remember before I woke up.

“Look who decided to wake up.” Dean said sarcastically.

“mm.” Was all I could manage to say.

I looked around me, looked like the motel room to me.

“We got rid of him after you decided to play the role of Sleeping Beauty.”

“Good, I need to leave.”

“Nope, you’re staying here for another day.”

“Dean, you can’t make me.”

“Uh huh. Wanna bet?”

“Sure.” I laughed a bit.

It wasn’t until two days later until they both allowed me to leave. I smiled as I left. They gave me their number in case I ever got into trouble or needed help. If anything it will be them calling me for help, but hey, maybe I will need their help someday.

About a month later I went into a bar in another town. This bar wasn’t that bad, thankfully I was just passing through this town, I never really noticed a case here anyways. I wasn’t entirely sure what I was doing here anyways. I sat down at the counter and ordered a beer. I mean, I don’t drink that often. I looked around the bar taking in my surroundings just to be on the safe side, because you never know what could happen. I turned back around in my seat and took a drink of my beer. Blah, it tasted horrible. Oh well. I sat there for fifteen minutes basically staring at the wall, until I felt a tap on my shoulder and I quickly turned around.

“I’m not inter-”

“Hey Sweetheart.”

“Dean? What are you doing here?” I said shocked.

“Just finished up a hunt nearby. And you?”

“Just passing through.”

“Going anywhere in particular?”

“Nope. Driving to pass the time.”

He smirked. I hate myself for feeling this fluttery feeling inside when I’m around him. I always cover it up though with my not caring attitude. I really should stop doing that. Cause maybe something could happen, maybe we could have a relationship. ‘Gaia! Sheesh, don’t think like that’ I told myself. If I have a relationship, I’ll get too attached, then he’ll leave me or die. It always happens and I don’t want that to happen to him.

“Gaia? Are you listening to anything I’m saying?” He asked.

“I’m sorry.” I said a little guilty, “what did you say? I’ll listen this time.”

“I said, why don’t we meet up sometime tomorrow?”

“Are you asking me out?”

Oh shit, did I just say that out loud? That was meant for my head. Dammit, dammit, DAMMIT!

“Yeah, sure.”  He replied.

“Um, what? I, uhh.. no.”

“I was kidding anyways. I just didn’t want you to feel embarrassed and leave again.”

“Oh shut up! That happened once! Where are we going to meet?”

“We’ll meet you at that coffee place on the main street?”

“Sure.” I said agreeing.

We met up the next day around 11. Only Sam wasn’t there.

“Where’s Sam?” I asked curiously.

“Sick.” He replied.

“I’m serious! Food poisoning, or something.”

“Diners are evil. Just in case you didn’t know. And that’s a shame.”

“Why is it such a shame to poor little Gaia?”

“I wanted to show him something.” I said while putting my head down.

“Show him something? Is Sammy in some sort of twisted relationship with you or something?”

“No!” I exclaimed, “I just wanted to show him these.”

I pulled out my sketch book and showed Dean the work that I had finished over the past month.

“What do you think?” I asked nervously.

“You don’t like it do you? I knew it was horri-”

“It’s amazing! What are you doing hunting when you can do amazing work like this?”

“There’s darkness out in the world that I don’t want people to ever have to know about it.” I replied bluntly.

It was silent after that. I didn’t know what to say, and he didn’t know what else to say. I stared at him, thinking maybe if I remembered the details I could sketch it later if I had time.

“Here,” I said handing my sketchbook over to him, “Take it. You can show Sam, if you want.”

It was silent again for a while, it was an awkward uncomfortable silence, it was comfortable. I slowly drank my coffee taking in my surroundings. Maybe one day I would come back to this half decent town.

“Hey, I’m gonna head back to the motel.” He said looking at me.

“Oh, okay.” I replied a bit saddened.

He got up and left, and I just stared out the window not knowing what to do. Who would’ve thought I would ever talk to the Winchester’s, because I never thought I would. They’re stupid, but good. They know what they’re doing. I find myself hoping to come across them more often then I should be. But really, they are the only people I talk to. All my family is dead or missing, I don’t like having connections because then I get hurt. But they know what they’re doing, so I don’t have to worry as much.

It wasn’t until almost a year later when I saw Dean again. It wasn’t on anything good. But then again in this life when you run into someone it’s never good. I was in the hospital and somehow the Winchesters found out.

When I first heard Dean and Sam’s voices I tried to open my eyes, but the darkness around me was suffocating. I couldn’t bring myself to open my eyes, so I ended up falling back into the darkness.  It wasn’t until awhile later until I could finally come to the surface of full consciousness.

“Hey, look who’s awake.”

My mouth felt so dry, I wanted water, I wanted to be able to speak.

“D’n.” Was all I could manage to get out. Maybe this was a dream, and maybe he wasn’t really here.

“Gaia.” He said as he handed my some water that I had no clue where it came from. Water was never so amazing to me as it is for me right now. I laid still for another lengthy period of time before trying to say anything else. What happened to me? Why am I even in the hospital anyways? What happened to me?

“Gaia, can you stay awake?” I heard him say quietly, and I nodded in response.

“Do you know how you got here?”

“From what I heard about others, it was because a hunt went wrong. Why didn’t you call us?”

I looked up at Dean and saw his face. He looked scruffy, how long had he been here? Why did he care?

“I-I … I’m sorry. I thought I could handle it,” I said as it was coming back to me, “how long have I been here for?”

“A week or so.”

I was beginning to feel tired again, and overwhelming tired. Why was I beginning to have doubts about me leaving this hospital, at least alive?

It wasn’t long after before I ended up falling back asleep, and waking up when it was dark. I looked around the room and saw Dean sitting in the chair asleep. I didn’t want to wake him up, but I didn’t want to be up alone.

“Dean?” I said quietly.

“hmm.” He was beginning to wake up.

“I.. I can’t sleep anymore.”

“I’m awake.”

“Why are you still here anyways?”

“Because… I just am.” He said getting defensive.

“Do you care about me?” I said curiously.

“I’m not talking about this with you right now!”

“Awww, you do!” I said with a hint of excitement, “I care about you too, Dean.” I threw in quickly at the end.

I never saw myself falling for a Winchester, but look at me, I did. Who knows what will happen with us. I see us crossing paths again someday. I care about both of them. But Dean, there’s something that’s different about him that I like. Something I have always have liked.
