A train had passed by a while earlier

Through childish, imagination-filled eyes

I glimpse the secret of fear

Of learning what I never wanted to know

Tostay asstill and light as sand

And hoping that my child eyes weren't caught in that moment

Contact with the dark-unknown

A ghost through a rail-car window

Streaking past, like the full culmination of life

I was in a momentary/eternal grip

With a bristling back

Swollen pupils, as in sharks and sex

Heart skipping, like coal-engine pistons

The lesson, for future reference

Mortality and transcendence
