The bond of these sisters is stronger than any other. Tragedy hits and everything falls apart, but not even death can separate two people this close.

The Survivor

I wake to my mother

standing over me

like a tree over the ground below

exciting thoughts overcome me

as I realize my 6th birthday is here

Friends and family come to see me.

we celebrate my coming into this world

with cake, beverage, and memories

my sister hugs me as she always does

then without warning its over

We are exploring the woods

pretending like we are something more

then a couple of teenagers

like children we play

never knowing we were making memories

I will cherish forever

We got the news

every room filled to the ceiling with tears

normal was replaced with pain

poisonous gas fills my lungs and I feel numb

then she walks in

The day came

people in black wearing expressionless faces

I cannot describe the feeling as pain

it was much more

I hate that I can't do anything to hurt

what killed

I wake to my mother

standing other me like years before

I walk down the stairs to see a banner

with beautiful lettering saying

sweet sixteen

My friends and family come to see me

we celebrate my coming into this world

with cake, beverage, and memories

my father hugs me

but we all know it’s not the same

It’s been 10 years since it happened

since the dark arms of disease took her

I can still see the trees we explored

I can smell her perfume in the wind

not having a care in the world

oblivious to all to come
