Comments Please 4: Conclusion

Conclusion, based on the limited responses received

Question 1

Nothing is conclusive

Question 2

The general consensus is that a star rating system is not desired.

That is not to say it should not be available as an option for those a star rating appeals.

I believe that there are two things we need to achieve

  1.  To keep the basic framework of Booksie as it is so that its existing form is not changed. It is clear that the majority of members I have conversed with like the format and what it does.
  2. Make changes optional and as broad as possible to give tools to writers and readers to have Booksie more personal for their needs.

I AM CONERNED THAT CHANGES WE PUSH FOR DESINGAGES MEMBERS WHO ARE HAPPY WITH THE CURRENT SITE. I WOULD NOT WANT TO SEE ANY CHANGES THAT PUSH EXISTING MEMBERS WAY AND WOULD NOT SUPPORT THOSE CHANGES.

With the above statement in mind any changes made should be COMPLETELY option. Drop downs that can be activated by ticking a box. The default should be if left un-ticked then comments are as they are now. But with the ability to continue a thread of comments after the initial ‘comment and reply’

I propose the following

Directly below the Summary box are two boxes that activate a grey’d out options lists.

Tick Box 1

If selected then the options are activated and the appropriate statement is presented below that tick box. Along with and advisory note to the review regarding commenting

Tick Box 2

Would activate a star rating option

Below is an attempt to present how I think the layout would look. (Excuse my basic effort)

Dibs, I hope some of this could be taken on board? You have put a lot of work and thought into it.

Thank you Anna, It would be good to have booksie a little more inclusive and interactive. It has such a great base to work from.

I suspect the site owners want to do as little as possible, so long as it makes money

Thats life!

It would be nice if there were a chat room available on here for all of us to get to know each other better. I liked your ideas here, though. Having more options is always nice! :) However, I am one of those that like Booksie the way it is. So options are always a good thing! :)

Hi Angie,

Yes there are several bolt on things that could be done. Like a chatroom or a forum type format. But I would need involvement by the owners of Booksie so is unlikely to happen. A shame really.

Maria Linda

this is great idea Dibs, but what happened? Didn't materialize?
I have been thinking about the comment thread thing also.
It would really be great if the author and the reader would be able to continue the conversation and not be limited to the reader's comment then the author's reply, then nothing further.

You are absolutely right Maria, some comments do need to run into a conversatiion. As for the project, it is impossible to get the owners of booksie to respond. As far as I can work out the site is a finacial venture and run with as little effort on their part as possible. Everything is geared to minimum mantainence and maximum advertising. This site could be so much more but I dont hold much hope that it will be. So for now we network amongst ourselves and set up our own ways to comunicate. If you ever want to discuss anything in further depth then you are welcome to email me. And there is aways the booksie facebook page, though I don't subscribe. I have little enough time now without being drawn into the world of facebook too.
