I have just moved from my flat and lost a wonderful view, I have written this poem so I can take a little of that view with me.

This Day New

Bright from the west long shadows stretch

across the meadows of lush emerald dew.

Peace and tranquillity drawn, nay etched

on my thoughts and my soul on this day new.

***

Bud’s awake, green hearts burst and covet the light;

And the cherry gaily flaunt its blossom’s hue.

Renewed hope paints in pastel colours bright

across my mind and thru my heart on this day new.

***

Silver birch where songbird perch, bathe in early sun.

From outstretched limbs a thrush sing its sweet review.

Morn’s mood as clay to a sculptor does succumb,

and is moulded most affable on this day new.

***

Crested green, far woodland scene reaches for the sky;

Earth’s emerald crown; heaven’s gown in sapphire blue.

My blissful state, the gem that thrills the jeweller’s eye.

A diamond gift, a moment’s lift on this day new

***

Dandelions and buttercups; meadows golden smiles.

Bays of green where swathes of sunny yellows are strew.

Alive with possibility a new verse compiles

on nature’s splendid poetic slate on this day new.

***

So I rise in the sun’s rejuvenating rays.

Ready to illuminate, resolute my best to do.

To carry nature’s fine art, her unspoken phrase;

And through my deeds exemplify on this day new.

Ahh, you speak of natures beauty as intrinsic and indelible. I agree, that is how I think of nature also. Drink deep my friend and fill your spirit, for scenes like that will stay within you forever.

Hi Joe, thank you for sharing and more importantly connecting with this poem. It is one thing to savour such a scene it is wholly another and better to share it, even if only through the written word...Dibs

Dibs, this is beautiful! The style of writing reminds me of one of the classic poets. Vivid and romantic images of the prefectness of nature.

Well done! :)

Thank you Ava, this poem took several days to write as it is fairly rigid in its format, but I enjoy that kind of challenge anyway. I am please you felt it had a classic feel to it as that was my intention. The subject is one that I often lean on as it is so familiar to me.

You have a real knack for writing in this descriptive classical style. Obviously you have a strong connection to nature, and you reflect that love and respect beautifully here.

You said it in a nutshell Bob. My love of nature sometimes feels beyond words for me, but at least with this poem I have managed a few...kind regards..Dibs
