Spring, Spring, Spring Is here!
.
Oh my weren’t the birds vocal today
Shook me out of bed and on my way
Today is the day it burst onto the scene.
Today the birds skipped scurried and preened
They called me from my bed to rivers edge
Their excited message from tree and hedge
They sung it loud and clear;
Spring, spring, spring is here!
.
Along the banks flowers sprouted
In trees green buds and blossoms outed
Snowdrops beckoned me to come near;
Drooped their heads to see what else will appear
Daffodils gaze up and with bright sunny faces
Announced that season are swapping places
And shouted loud and clear;
Spring, spring, spring is here!
.
Upon the bank stood tall, a proud drake
Barks me a warning his ladies, not to take
Don’t worry my fine feathered friend, my retort
I am not that kind of duck fancier sort
And I am not in an ‘Al la Orange’ mood
Good luck to you, may you have many a brood
His ladies splash it loud and clear
Spring, spring, spring is here!
.
From under the bridge a brook trout darted
Came out to see what others had started
Watched me with deep suspicion
The flick of his tail marked his position
No fly and line for you my little fellow
Just a doff of my cap and a courteous hello
I know what you say in your waters clear
Spring, spring, spring is here!
.
And in the greyness of the rain fill sky
A cloud of returning starlings swirled by
As they twisted and turned, traded places
And a body of wings filled new spaces
I thanked them for their marvellous show
In reply, at least it seemed, they took a bow
And from their stage, dance loud and clear;
Spring, spring, spring is here!
.
So in case you seem to have missed it
The birds have sung, splashed and danced it
It is the truth; that I know
I heard it from the flowers that grow
The arrival cannot be denied
A fact that even the fish can’t hide
Let me tell you loud and clear;
Spring, spring, spring is here!
.
.
