A friend of mine in the US of A
Asked me, has the rain gone away?
Rain I said, you mean that stuff,
The stuff I had said we’ve had quite enough.
No it’s still persisting and doesn’t want to go
He smirked in his flip-flops and sombrero
Me, I stood in my galoshes and sowester
And complained it’s now up to my chest sir
He scoffed and laughed just a little
And the rain grew heavier than just a drizzle
And he announced, well here it’s near on eighty degrees
All I could do was remember the sun and sneeze
And blame that confounded Jetstream
For the never ending cloud and lack of sunbeam
And the heat from the states
Causing our puddles, ponds and lakes
I carped, I’ve had enough of low pressure and depression
I have had enough of this wet meteorological lesson
Then as the flood reached passed my shoulders
He sunnily said why you don’t come over
Hop aboard a yacht, that’s what to do
Or find an Ark, a row boat or canoe
It was a kind offer, a mighty fine idea
But not even a banana boat could I find near
All I could say in answer to his question
Through garbled gulps and splutter interpretation
Wait a just a minute I think the rain has stopped
Give me a moment and I’ll soon have all this mopped
The weather is changing perhaps it will rotate
Sun over England and rain in the states
Then the heavens opened again and the water continued to rise
Over my ears and into my eyes
And all that could be seen of the place I did stay
A snorkel tube sticking up and sowester floating away
