Apologies if I offend, I am sure most Irishmen are actually far superior in intelligence than us English, but it is an unwritten law that this is how the kind of joke must start.
There was an Englishman, Irishman and Scotsman at a job interview. Each is called in one at a time. The Englishman first.
After a few minutes he reappears where Jock and Paddy are waiting.
Jock being next asked the Englishman how it went, to which he replied
Great, it was a sintch, got the job. All they ask was my name and I had to think of a sentence with fascinate in it.
Jock being a little lazy asked what sentence he had used.
Working for this company would excite and fascinate me. Was the reply.
Mean while Paddy is taking all this in and begins to think hard about his sentence
As Jock leaves he is smiling and gives the thumbs up to Paddy who is last to be called in
As expected the interviewer asked Paddy is name
Paddy was ready and said confidently
Well Mr McMurphy could you give me a sentence with the word fascinate in it please
Brimming with confidence Paddy cleared his voice and repeated his line
I have a smart shirt that I wear going out, it has nine buttons, but I can only fasten eight.
Poor Paddy, a little like us writers, we don’t always see things as others do.
