When I was younger (back before I had ever finished anything) I would start a story and work on it until I got inspired for something else, then I'd work on that. I went wherever my muse took me. Sometimes I went back to previous stories that I had started, sometimes I didn't. But I never finished anything. Not once.

Then, I got so determined to finish this one story that I refused to start another. Even when I was inspired for a diffrent idea, I kept going on my current project. I'd jot town the new idea for use later, but I didn't veer away from the story I was writing at that time. And you know what? I finished it. For the first time in my life I finished a story! I was so unbelievably proud of myself.

I did that again with my next story. Even when I wanted to work on something else, I stayed on track and finished my current project. And I did. And the one after that, and the one after that. That was when I figured it out. I am incapable of writing more than one story at a time. Oh, I know it's possible, just not for me.

My cousin, A's, friend (we'll call her L) can do that. She'll work on a dozen stories at a time. She'll jump from story to story, whatever calls out to her at that moment. My friend (Let's say M) can sort of do the same thing, but not exactly. She's got a series that's so complecated that, sometimes, she has to write three or four at a time, because they're all in the same world, during the same timeline, and intersecting but involving completely diffrent characters. My other friend (B) jumps from story to story like L.

So, I'm curious, how many people out there only write one thing at a time like me? And how many are like L, M and B? When you work on a story, do you focus solely on that one story, or do you work on whatever floats your boat at the time?
