I relate to this writing on different levels, and I'm sure other people can also. We stand for things in life, society, war, and so many other situations. But what exactly are we standing for?

Ashes fall, the dust begins to clear,

the little that's left of a long and lonesome year.

Death rolled in, life rolled out,

broken families left without a doubt.

The few who live to remember that day

are lost for words with little left to say.

They carry on their thinning years

covered in sorrow, drowning in tears.

But the few like I, who stayed to fight

will never forget, will never lose sight.

Friends were lost, and so much more,

if only we knew what we were fighting for.
