Ladies and gentlemen of St. Louis, we want to welcome you all to...Grayworld 2.0!

The crowd choruses their approval. Focus on Sabrina, who remains silent but seems determined and hopeful.

Announcer

And now, the moment we have all been waiting for, the born ready Howard Gray himself, and his lovely assistant, Cynthia!

The Crowd erupts again as Howard Gray takes his claim to the spotlight, accompanied by Cynthia who smiles and waves broadly to the audience.

Howard Gray

Ladies and gentleman (Slight pause) even though, after the money they spent tonight, I doubt the men are going to be that gentle. (pauses as the audience laughs, a forced laugh for the sheer excitement of his fame, not at the joke) Welcome to Grayworld, and before I get started I want to contemplate what Grayworld is and what it stands for. Think about it, what started Grayworld? Money, Fame, No it was a dream. A fifteen year old with the idea that magic could take him flying, literally.

Howard Gray begins to levitate at this comment, he walks around onstage, seemingly to be airborne, the crowd erupts into applause. Howard raises a hand to silence them then continues.

I was repeatedly told of things I couldn’t do, goals I’ll never achieve. Now I’ve achieved them, and that’s why we have this show here tonight, it’s been five years since I had the great challenge to make it on stage, so this show is a show to celebrate!

Confetti is blasted on the stage as Howard Gray finishes his speech, the focus shifts to Sabrina Mancos sitting in the crowd, looking completely awestruck.

Sabrina mancos

It was good mom, there were some pretty cool tricks that he did.

Mrs. mancos

That’s wonderful, isn’t it Charles?

mr. mancos

(Scoffs) Wonderful? It’s just some punk kid, using deception to entertain our minds for a few hours as he pulls off a real con, the three hundred bucks it costs for a ticket, what the hell were you thinking letting her go to that show anyway Martha?

mrs. mancos

Well she did save the money up herself dear.

mr. mancos

Yeah, and that money could have been more wisely put towards her college fund.

sabrina mancos

Dad! I really wanted to see this show, I thought you would be happy for the fact that I put in my own effort for it. Don’t you care that I try for the things that I love.

mr. mancos

No, I care that you get yourself to college, and go become a doctor or something smart like that, if not, you’re just a waste of the money that your mother and I put into you bringing you out of the womb. So I expect I get my damn money’s worth out of you, I don’t need you toying around seeing an expensive gay guy throw daisies out of a hat, I need you to earn enough money to get to school, do you understand?

sabrina mancos

No I don’t! What would happen, if I don’t want to be a doctor, what if I wanted to be a fashion designer or something.

mr. mancos

(after a pause then eruption) You never cease to astound me, ever since the day you were born, you’ve been a disappointment, the fact that you came out the wrong gender, to every little thing that you do just to go against what I want from my child, just do this one thing right and become a doctor.

sabrina mancos

(Tears filling in her eyes) You don’t understand anything! Just because we don’t think the same doesn’t mean I’m a disappointment.

There is a slight moment of silence.

mrs. mancos

Honey, Even if you don’t want to become a doctor, I think what your fathers trying to say is we want to see you get into school.

Sabrina mancos

Oh, you think he’s right mom, you think I’m a disappointment too. Well how about I disappoint you again by not going to school on Monday.

Why did you put my clothes away Howard!?

howard gray

For the last time, I didn’t touch your Damn clothes! (Afterthought with less force) Well I did when I removed them.

cynthia

See you admit that you moved them!

howard gray

(exasperated) Off your body!

The flash of a camera interrupts their conversation, they turn to see an excited tourist taking their picture.

howard gray

(Agitated) That’s going to end up online.

cynthia

Howard, this is why I don’t like working with you. You’re too insensitive

Howard gray

What? What do you mean insensitive.

Cynthia

You just think of yourself, not about others, or all the shit that comes from your (struggles for a word) immaturity.

Howard Gray

Immaturity? I thought you had a good time!

cynthia

Does this look like a good time? I’ll show you a good time, I quit, I’m not going to do another show.

Cynthia storms off. Howard calls after her.

Howard Gray

Good riddance, I don’t need somebody who’s quick to push blame when life doesn’t go their way.
