A poor day it was.
Worked for the pittance

Sweat and dust
Stained my blue coat

My hat droops
From the sun and wind.

Sergeant tells me
To straighten up my kit

Fed my horse
Rubbed him down

I bless the day
I was made a cavalryman

Beats the hell out of walking
