You all know the saying  - "Friends can be lovers , but lovers can't be friends" ?

I met my best friend when I was in Grade 10. It wasn't long untill we became the best of the friends. Trusting each other with everything. We shared all our feelings and I shared a lot of my first moments with her. First time smoking, first time drinking, going out. ETC. She stood by me when I fell pregnant and gave birth to my precious little girl. To name all the things we went through and what we meant to each other will take up the whole day. Let's just say that I never imaged that anybody else could possibly be as close as we were.

Her girlfriend often suspected that there was more than just friendship between us, but the thought of that never occured to me. Untill one night about five months ago. It often happened that I got a sudden urge to phone her or go to her house and that was usualy when she was thinking of me as well. We had a connection. So I went to her house and all of a sudden I looked at her through different eyes.

We tried to fight our feelings, but could not resist. We've now been dating for three months. Where there was unconditional trust, there's now doubt. Where we never used to argue, tempers flair. I often wonder if I made the right choice. Now my question is: Can friends really become lovers?

With a true friendship you accept that person, faults and all. Best friends never try to change one another. They're the ones who laugh with you at the silly things you do. Cry with you, joke with you and care for you. They're the ones who you can call up in the middle of the night, just because you can't sleep. They don't get jealous at your other friends and encourage you to take chances in life. They know you better than you know yourself. They stand up for you when people try to put you down. You can always count on them being there. That's friendship... To be in a relationship - a successfull one  - you need all of the above. Why do things get complicated then?
