Too long have I lived here
On a leash ; enslaved by you.
Enslaved to you by
What I took for love.
But you threw the rag doll
The play pram of your loveless appetites
Threw out the toyed-love with your bathwater
And all this time , my old lover
I never knew what it was to be loved
Only when I was needed for love making.
I lingered on your pearly
Like all the others
And you held court,
With half hearted poetry
Written in half heeded attention
Like all you say or write or
And I so much regret
Listening to the learned words
For they are only bubbles;
From a pipe of soap.
You no longer know or care
When your boorish doggerel
Comes to knaw repeatedly
On your audience in the folk club
And they don’t
Just look at one another
And clap anyway;
At the esoteric compositions.
Of the wayward genius .
They cheer the drunken
They toast the sulking bard
They still linger on Your learned words;-
And I have left this adoring realm
Shaken off my shackles
And flown from your bestial barony;
See me now from the mullioned windows
your squinted sequined citadel
I have leapt the ramparts of my own making
Scaled the moat of your enslavement.
For I was nothing to you then
And even less to myself now;
But my heart surges with new vibrance
At the first freedom of my last
Beats harder in my chest
Beats faster to the beats of freedom.
Beats with terror to the drumbeat
Of my Walk once more from out the
Of your cloying castleatated walls .
Beats now for me ;
And not some ragdoll
Sycophantic Shell of me,
