half of a poem I'm currently writing

There was once wonder in everything,
The music that is life.
I could feel the beat, hear the notes,
My soul danced with it.

But now a shroud has fallen.
The world thinly veiled,
I still see it, I still know it’s there.
But I no longer feel it,
It isn’t fair.

How do you fight such a torturous fate?
To feel nothing, when you should feel great.
I’ve found an answer, a particular way.
I simply lose my mind in something else,
let it drift away.

In a book, a movie, a mourning’s run,
A painting, a game, the warmth of the sun,
I lose myself in perception.
Though this is just a self deception.

But there are more ways
To avoid the feeling of not feeling,
With my imagination, and empathy too,
I can feel what others feel,
Or so I think I do.

All that, just so I can forget my own thoughts.
But like singing the words of another person’s song,
All of this is fleeting,
It doesn’t last very long.

Yet, there is one more thing
That I have yet to try.
I’ve seen a glimpse.
I’ve had a taste.
But to truly achieve it,
There is more to face.
