Finally, rain! Christ, it's been about two months here without rain. Drove me absolutely mad. It's raining as I type, and until it was gone, I didn't know how much I loved it.

The earth was dying
All dry grasses and arid badlands
Fires raged and ate the forests
Turning lush beauty into the scorched bones of trees
The rivers ran low and then dry
Leaving here for wetter landscapes
Everyone has gone but me
and here I sit
waiting
alone
the clouds roil and bubble to the east
and the air turns electric and ornery
and as the cool water falls hot and fast
it washes me away
while I stand smiling, I think
finally,
rain
