Something rustled under the leaves,

grunting nightly,

sputtering, spinning,

shook down,

in the field of dripping foliage.

Out there,

where the rocks piled upon one another,

at the forests edge,

I trudged into the field,

to find this invisible visitation.

Hearing mysterious untraceable foot-steps in the distance,

I paused to consider this investigation,

the fatigue of my own curiosity,

hesitated the address of my discovery.

Yet, I pursued,

revenging myself in tremendous disgust,

  with what I might find.

And, there it lay,

undisturbed, twitching upon exposure,

a caterpillar with long silken strings,

weaving a cocoon,

with a hook stick needle pointed loom,

turning fabric outward from its womb;

giving birth to itself.

I walked away,

pretending I didn't see;

until the next morning when I awoke,

whence upon the opened window,

to let the cool summer air vanquish the staleness of warmth,

I was greeted.

A darkly fluttering winged memory came back,

then spoke to me,

with high pitch soft cupped-hand.

This is what she said...

Great descriptions and atmosphere there. Jason, have you considered writing "proper" short stories? This one, for example, has a clear narrative, I think it would make an awesome short story. Of course, the language might be "too poetic", but what the hell, I'd love to see some of your poems in a prose format! :-)

Thank you very much Oleg !
I am a terribly bad writer when it comes to prose.

A very strong Gothic feel to this one, Doc, with your choice of words. And that pic at the end....well, Gothic through and through. Excellent -- one of my favorites!

Thank you Hully ! Painting with words sometimes takes a moment to realize what colors and brush strokes you are in the mood to use. But, once you do, its quite fun to write a picture...
which brings me to that gif..I was searching for pics of a cateplliar for the cover, and that little beauty popped up. I couldn't resist, and it sort of works .
