Slice

The door flies open, he storms toward me.

How come tonight he couldn’t just ignore me.

He reaches out grabbing my hair slapping me in my face.

Whatever love I once held is now erased.

I have to run I’m scared for my life.

So tired of these nightly beatings and mornings of pretending I’m a loving wife.

He grabs me from the back, throwing my body to the ground,

So accustomed to the beatings I see no need to make a sound.

Blood spills from my mouth as his foot lands in my side,

Nowhere to run, no tears to cry, no one to confide.

I peer out, it’s sitting right there,

I want to grab it and make this fight fair.

He turns me over placing his hands around my throat,

Only a few seconds left, my body begins to choke.

In a few seconds it will all end, so I close my eyes and began to pray.

I knew I was going to die, but it would not be this day.

My fingers reached out and curled around the butt of the knife,

Slice after slice the knife entered his chest, unwilling to accept anything else but the end of his life.

Like water from a faucet the blood poured through his shirt.

With sorrow he stared into my eyes, all I could muster was a smirk.
