Love is a fascinating thing. Some people can't handle it and some choose to ruin it. I never chose anything like that. I chose a man named Colt. He was my high school crush, the one who held my heart.
We started dating in my freshman year. He was a freshman too. College came fast. We both applied for different colleges, but I ended up transferring to his college.
It's so hard to explain...I suppose I should just start from the beginning.

"Look over there! What the heck are they doing?" My friend Tayla was always taking the smallest movements of a human and turning them into rumors.
"What?" I had to keep feeding the fire to keep myself warm...
The bell rang to signal us that it was time to go home. I took my usual route. Down the stairs, into the gym, through the locker rooms...I took a left this time. Lucky left, oh yes. I went through an empty classroom and up to another set of stairs that would lead me to the left outside of the building.
Instead of leaving and getting to my mom's car, I bumped into Colt. He was short, yet well-built. He had squinty eyes, but they lit up under the sun. His arms were veiny from always catching a football. I knew him from my last period. He seemed so funny and nice. He always talked about joining. Military? Hmm...
"Maya...sorry let me just move...I mean...huh?"
"What? I didn't say anything. Ha..." I smiled trying to be less awkward. I tried to move around him but he blocked me. He started rubbing his hands together nervously.
"Uhm...sorry. I just wanted to ask you something.."
I looked at his face. His jaw line was so sharp.
"What...what are you doing after school on friday?"
"uhm..nothing...I usually just go home."
"Nice. Uhm...I was wondering if maybe you wanted to go my football practice and we can hang out afterwards."
Typical teenage romance. That's where it all started. I kept going to his practices and we eventually became a couple. All throughout high school we held hands, we counted stars together and talked about our future. Our Senior year came and eventually college came afterwards. Like I said...I switched into Georgia University, Colt's college.
We went to college and graduated. I graduated at twenty-four, he graduated at twenty-three a year before me.
We moved in together and started with our careers. Everything was going good until Colt came to me one day.

"Hey babe!" I shouted to Colt. "What's this in your jacket? It's a military pamphlet or something!" Colt came in and grabbed me from behind. He hooked his arms around my waist.
"What's that babe?" He kissed my neck, but I needed answers.
"This pamphlet." I turned around and showed it to him. He grabbed it from my hands.
"Blah blah...oh." He put the paper down.
"I was gonna talk to you about that. Come in the living room.." He walked out slowly. I followed after tending to the laundry.
I sat down.
"So?"
"So! I was at work and all of these veterans walk in and they gave me this pamphlet...and I'm seriously thinking about joining..."
I was shocked. I had so much to say, but I couldn't say anything at all.
"I..I don't know what to say..."
Colt stared at me.
"Maya? You're crying.. you've known I've wanted to join for awhile. Please don't cry."
He came and sat by me. He grasped me as I cried.
"I just..I just don't want...die. I love you."
He nudged his head into my neck.
"I love you too baby." He was crying too. We both held onto each other. We both cried and held onto what we had.
Colt kissed my head and left the room. The laundry buzzer went off. Then silence.

I lied in bed waiting for Colt to come in. He finally came in after washing his face. He lied down on his side and grabbed my hand. He looked me in the eyes as if trying to communicate with me through eye contact.
"What's up dock?" We both laughed. I felt like a teen again. I suppose i've never grown up all the way.
Colt pinched my nose gently then kissed my lips. We sat there just staring into each other's eyes. His eyes read stress, love, and desire. I wondered what mine looked like. i squeezed his hand and started running my fingers up his half naked body. His muscles were tense, but they seemed to relax when my fingers touched them.
He started running his fingers on my dry skin. I don't think passion comes from the heart...the heart is just and organ. It doesn't hold emotion only blood and fear. I suppose that is emotion. My passion lied within Colt. We could remain constant for hours, just the vibe from our bodies was enough to create pleasure.
The warmth created our wall of love. The unbreakable. As we finished loving we began again, except without motion, just us.
"I'm gonna do it Maya." I blinked at the ceiling. It seemed like it was getting closer.
"You sure?" I felt his head nodding.
That was that.

Colt was packing. He had gone through three months of training in order to get into the position he wanted to get into.
He got the last of his stuff into the taxi. He came back into the house to say goodbye.
"Oh Maya." He hugged me and I hugged him back. We must have hugged for at least ten minutes. He kissed me a million times. I didn't want to let him go. I had to.
"Go get em babe." I felt tears heading to the surface.
"I love you baby."
"I love you more."
Then he was gone. Just like that. Now I wait and cry..
