my awakening

Poem by: dreaming of you

Summary

A PART OF MY LIFE , I REMEMBER SO VERY WELL , WHEN OUR FAMILY ARRIVED BACK HOME IN OUR NATIVE YORKSHIRE . I DID'NT KNOW A LIVING SOUL , I WAS TANNED FROM HEAD TO FOOT , MY HAIR HAD TURNED ALMOST WHITE FROM BEING IN THE SUN SO MUCH AND I STUCK OUT LIKE A SORE THUMB , TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE , I WORE NOTHING BUT SHORTS IN THOSE DAYS , YORKSHIRE'S RAIN AND BITTER COLD WINTERS , WERE THINGS I HAD LONG FORGOTTEN.
TURNING UP FOR SCHOOL , I MUST HAVE LOOKED A RIGHT DIPSTICK , FORTUNATELY , ONE GIRL , WHO BECAME MY BEST FRIEND FOR YEARS AFTER , TOOK ME IN HAND .

I CAME HOME FROM SINGAPORE

ALL INNOCENT AND TANNED

A NEIGHBOURS DAUGHTER DECIDED

SHE'D TURN ME INTO A MAN.

COME INTO THE TREEHOUSE

SHE WAS BECKONING TO ME

LET'S HAVE A LOOK AT ''JIMMY''

I'VE HEARD THERE'S LOT'S TO SEE.

I DID'NT KNOW WHO ''JIMMY'' WAS

IT WAS A NAME I COULD'NT RECALL

THE BEMUSED LOOK UPON MY FACE

MUST HAVE SAID IT ALL.

''OH'' I SEE YOU'RE A VIRGIN

SHE SAID. THEN TAUGHT ME HOW TO KISS

HER FINGERS CRAWLED UP MY INNER LEG

OOOOOOOOH , LET'S HAVE A LOOK AT THIS.

WITH EACH STROKE I WAS SIGHING

BUT BEGGING HER FOR MORE

THEN SHE TOLD ME WHAT I HAD TO DO

BEFORE SHE SHOWED ME WHAT ''JIMMY'' WAS FOR.

DON'T BE SO EAGER

SHE SAID . AS I TORE AT HER DRESS

BE VERY GENTLE AND TAKE YOUR TIME

YOU ARE VISITING A NEW ADDRESS.

SOON I WAS LEADING

WHAT A GOOD STUDENT I HAD BEEN

I WAS THE KING OF ENGLAND

AND SHE MY LOVING QUEEN.

IN THAT TREEHOUSE WITH MY NEW FRIEND

I I LEARNED A LITTLE MORE EACH DAY

UNTIL THREE YEARS LATER , HER FATHER

GOT A NEW JOB AND THEY MOVED AWAY.

BUT I WILL NEVER FORGET HER

NOR THE LESSON'S THAT SHE GAVE

AND I WILL CARRY THE BEAUTIFUL MEMORY

UNTIL THEY PUT ME IN MY GRAVE.
