i visited my grandparents house

one sunday afternoon

to hear my grandad having a bit of a grouse

as he sat by the fire in the living room.

i only want two bob, ''he said'

for a lovely pint of beer

grandma's face turned a shade of red

that grandad knew to fear.

but when he saw me standing there

he thought he'd have another go

listen love, its just not fair

i've worked all week you know .

my throat is parched ,i've never been so dry

and i've been all week down that pit

gran replied ' you could make a glass eye cry

but you are still not getting it .

then he took her in his arms

and kissed her tenderly

i knew she'd fallen for his charms

when she winked at me .

grandma said .. ok you win

taking two bob from her purse

grandad gave me a victorious grin

then went to quench his thirst .
