I am in bloom
Full of red petals
Green blossoms
Black thorns
Left eventually to wilt
In a garden full of rubble
A sole member of
A once flourishing
Bed of beautiful roses
We were social
Communal and twisted like rope
Tangled like a bundle of wires
Spread across the valley
As far as the eye could see
Now drowned out and crushed by
Bricks
Mortar
Old garbage
New styrofoam
That won't disintegrate
We'll never grow again
There was a time when
We were strong, sustainable
Self managing
Forever growing toward the sun
Eventually it was easier to let the trash in
Than to sprout and bloom
Easier to give up and stay a sprout
Than to become real
A ghost populace
Of apathetical buds
A garden of wreckage
A reminder of what was
And could have been
