Violent behavior. Short happiness. The sting. The numbness. The manic mood swings. The end.

Much Needed Sleep

The young man ran down the back alley way away from prying eyes. He roughly hit a wall behind him and slid down to a sitting position on the ground. Smiling maniacally, he pulled out the bag from his jacket and rolled up one sleeve.

Taking the rubber band, he made a nice knot just above his veins. He did what he usually did and filled up the tube in his hand. Flicking it and applying pressure to the end, a small squirt of the substance popped out

Next he stuck the needle in his skin and rested his head back against the wall and sighed peacefully. The familiar sensation filled him and made him up beat, colors were everywhere, his vision was improved; his body heat escalated.

His heart beat faster and faster as he stood up and jumped around, hollered and yelled in excitement. People from the other end of the alley yelled out their windows for him to calm down or they'd call the police, he didn't care, "Do it!" He yelled, "I ain't afraid of no coppers! They'll never catch me after tonight!"

"After tonight, I'll be alive forever!" He yelled to himself, and rammed his head into the wall in front of him. Next he slammed his body over and over and over again, until he fell to the ground moaning but otherwise fine.

He repeated the earlier process.

Minutes passed, as he lied on the ground, staring up at what little sky he could see between the two buildings that made up the alley.

Slowly, he could feel his heart beat going down.

He began to feel cold.

His head was numb. The entire left side of his body was going numb as well.

The urge to sleep and never wake up came over him in a strong wave. He smiled to himself, and welcomed the much needed sleep.
