Dead Wife

“Get Up, don’t you have to go to office…how lazy you are!!!” were the good morning greetings ringing in Ashish’s ears. “I am tired I work and sleep late at night…hmm” was all he could do with all his power, poor fellow only 23 and he has a burden of a wife and that too, a rampaged wife. “I have to clean the bed and go to school to teach, I also work but I am not as lazy as you are Get up Get up” and she snatched the bed sheet from his body. Ashish got annoyed and could only yell in a loud voice, “Shalini…” but he knew he could do nothing.

He left bed and started to get ready for office. What a deadly stupid wife I have got, look at Mr. Sharma’s wife so beautiful but still no pride and she respects Mr. Sharma a lot but mine she I think could slap me in front of my colleagues No Surprise in that. All these things were running inside his mind. Here’s the lunch and come early I have to go to shopping dictated Shalini. “But I have got work to finish in office.” Ashish tried to explain. Shalini stared towards him with dim eyes as a lioness targets a deer and Ashish said, “OK!”

He took his bike and after dropping Shalini went to his office. On the way towards office he scanned every beautiful girl on his way. “Oh!!! Every girl is far better than Shalini and how sweet they look….I think I am the unluckiest guy on this earth!!!” he was thinking on his way.

At lunch time he opened his tiffin only to find some burnt toasts, that’s what you get if you don’t fulfill her needs, he wanted to shout but can’t. Opposite to him was Mr. Sharma eating soft Chapatti dipped in mushroom gravy, it was like sprinkling salt on wounds but he could do nothing and swallowed somehow.

I am fed up with her, I want to kill her but I don’t want to get into jail, also what will happen to my parents he thought on his way back home. He is now habitual of this daily tiring story. Somehow he manages to divert his mood. They went shopping and returned, Ashish wanted to ask about the burned toasts but was too afraid to say anything, he also had other plans in mind but it’s being a long time they have loved and he lacked the courage so he decided to sleep.

The morning was not a normal one; it was a day of celebration for Ashish. He woke up with his mother shouting his name and asking him to see what has happened to Shalini. This time the shout was more persistent and he at once jumped out of his bed and rushed towards the staircase and found Shalini lying there motionlessly and blood on staircases below her, his mother was standing their trying to help her. He rushed forward and checked her pulses and hurray all his worries were gone. Shalini DIED. He wanted to shout with joy, she has done so much bad to him that he can’t tell and drums of his second wedding with a far better wife were ringing in his ears, controlling his emotions, he shouted “Oh!!! Shalini what happened.” The doctor declared the good news and all formalities were done.

All this happened so quickly that Ashish couldn’t believe how come all his wishes are coming true. You idiot it was just it, the solution, you should have done that before, push her when she is crossing the road in front of a car or say truck, may be put some oil on stairs so that this could have happened earlier but natural death is the best. “I was so much fed up with her…all my worries are gone!!!Thank you god…” he thanked in mind and all formalities were done on the thirteenth day of her death. A photo was hanged in the wall just behind their bed’s back. Everyone who came had tears in eyes and Ashish also had to show up a sad face and he was thinking, “Look at their crying they would have cried more if she would have been their wife…”.

All this happened in lightening fast speed and Ashish couldn’t believe his luck, now he was single again and ready to mingle. Every girl looked now as if his own property. “Ha what a relief…” he thought putting arms behind his head and relaxing in office. On reaching home he found no shout, no anger but just peace and lovely parents. He secretly brought cigarettes as he feared to smoke in front of Shalini, he smoked and while releasing smoke in air also said, “That’s what a life is without wife.” He went into room from terrace the room was just on back side on third floor and in front was some open space. He showed Shalini’s photograph the ciggi and smoked. He laid himself down and felt relaxing sleep.

Next morning he woke up and while rubbing his eyes shouted, “Shalini Its 8 30 and you didn’t waked me up!!! Where are you…”. ”Shalini…” this time louder and his mother came rushing in and asked what happened and what he is looking for. Suddenly he realized Shalini’s death and said to his mother that he will develop a habit. In his mind he thought, ”Just few more months dear Ashish and matrimony.com will find a lovely match for you…ha-ha……” and went to take a bath.

On his way he saw many beautiful girls going and was looking at them as if ready to eat them up. “Oh how free it feels…” he thought in mind. In office he was working and at lunch time, he forgot to call peon to bring his lunch so he has to go out to take some food. Tasty dosa in place of burned toast good he thought. He returned home with cigarette and beer as parents were out for marriage of a relative. Lot of beer and cigarette it feels like heaven he thought. After his head felt dizziness he laid himself on bed facing shalini’s photograph. Oh dear if you watch me like this you would have killed me and winked at her falling asleep. At 3 in morning his eyes opened and he took a turn on bed only to find the other side’s emptiness. His mind now went backwards through time oh she had long hairs and when she comes out after bath she looked like a dish ready to be served. How she used to give beggars fifty rupees and he used to shout at her…but she was kind hearted, what could I do it was act of god and he could do nothing. He looked at clock and it showed 4:30. “What!!!” he rubbed his eyes and wondered that it’s been one and a half hours he was thinking about Shalini…how could it be possible and thinking he felt asleep.

Hangover made him like being ill at office and while working he laid his head on table with keyboard on bottom drawer partially out. He opened his eyes and his eyes felt on Esc key and he was thinking whether he could escape from shalini’s deadly thoughts, he moved his eyes towards Shift which told him to shift to another charming lady but then at Undo written below Z, should and could he undo what has happened. He suddenly jumped away from keyboard it wasn’t so much horrible before. He went home this time with double the heavenly stuff and he drink and drank almost all night. At 2 PM Shalini’s thought again creped in his mind. His first night with her, “Oh how beautiful she looked…” he thought. How much she loved him when he felt ill in diarrhea and how they bathed together and all mischief he used to do to tease her.

“It’s enough…” he shouted, he banged opened the door and took a run towards front terrace to bring Shalini back but where should he go. Everybody in this world is somewhere right now, he is at his home and his parent are at marriage ceremony, Mr. Sharma and Mrs. Sharma at their home and neighbors all locked in their homes, everybody is somewhere Shalini should also be somewhere. He shouted her name softly, “S..halini” then louder and this time so much louder that his cheeks vibrated like a cellphone, “SHALINI…..” and tears oozed out from his eyes running parallel on both his cheeks.

Suddenly at 3 AM morning he saw sun making his upward progress in sky. Is it crazy doesn’t it has watch. The light of sun’s rays were so intense that he could see nothing but just light and light all over, a voice he thought of long before ringed in his ears “Get Up, don’t you have to go to office…how lazy you are!!!” Shalini shouted opening the curtain with sunlight hitting straight on Ashish’s face, he softly opened his eyes and for five minutes could only guess what all just happened. “Oh dear it was just a dream…” he thought. He jumped out of bed and Shalini was cleaning table with a cloth with her back towards Ashish, he called her name softly, “S..h..alini…”. She has just came from a bath and turned around with wet hairs partially on her cheeks and few on her front face. “Mrs. Sharma is no match in front of her…”, Ashish thought but could say nothing and just stare at her eyes deep inside without fear first time may be. Shalini as any other married women would have thought took him wrong and said going back to her work, “Go…it’s already late, you men could think of nothing else……”.

Ashish went towards her clutched her arm and turning her around took her in his arms and after a long time and of course for a long time kissed her on lips. Then he started kissing her on neck. Shalini wanted to push him away but first time she felt a bit submissive in front of her husband. He looked again in her eyes and kissed on her attractive eyelids. Shalini wanted to shout at him but couldn’t, she couldn’t understand for a minute what has come over him. “I love you Shalini….I love you a lot never leave me dear….”, saying he took her again in his arms so hard that Shalini felt she will have to go to a doctor for fractured bones. She could feel the love in the heart beat of her husband and felt the warmth he has today in his heart, she also holded him tight and kissed back. He laid her on bed kissing her and hugging her a lot and while making love to her, only one word was coming on his lips when they were free, “I love you Shalini…never ever leave me alone…”. He was so much relieved that he was the husband of a nice wife though short-tempered but at least he was not the husband of a Dead Wife.
